Sometimes the best journeys are those that combine exploring beautiful places with visiting people we love. Our recent trip through Italy gave us exactly that opportunity – a chance to travel while strengthening our family bonds and friendships.
Northern Italy: Lakes and Cities
We began at Lake Maggiore, taking in its stunning views of clear waters against mountain backdrops. The lake’s beauty provided the perfect start to our journey.
Moving on to Milan, we explored several of the city’s highlights, guided by our friend Francesca and family friends Anita, Vito and lovely boy, Rocco. We visited the Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace), strolled through the peaceful Sempione Park, explored the historic Sforza Castle, marvelled at the magnificent Duomo cathedral, and witnessed the modern financial district. Between sightseeing, we enjoyed wonderful meals at local restaurants, savouring Milan’s excellent cuisine.
Turin and Imola
In Turin, we met with our friends Lidia and Andrea. Along with a stroll around the city, we visited the Basilica of Superga, which holds special significance as the site of the tragic 1949 plane crash that claimed the lives of the beloved Torino football team. Today, it serves as a memorial where visitors pay their respects.
At Imola, we met another Francesca and her lovely family. Once again, we were able to appreciate lovely sights as well as several visits to the ice cream shop. Additionally, my husband Peter could not resist the chance to visit the famous racing circuit. Standing on the track where so many Formula 1 races have taken place was a special moment for him.
Central Italy: Family Time
Near Perugia, we enjoyed the beautiful Umbrian landscape before heading to Nepi (Viterbo) to visit my sister, who now lives in a residential home. These moments, though sometimes difficult, reminded us of the importance of family connections.
In Collalto, we caught up with my brother, who proudly shared his homemade wine and freshly gathered mushrooms from the local woods – a true taste of Italian country life.
Our journey continued to Carsoli, where we stayed with a dear friend who showed us wonderful hospitality. The warmth of long-time friendship made our stay special.
Final Stop: Rome
We ended our trip in Rome, gathering with family members to share meals and the opportunity to catch up. It was the perfect way to conclude our journey, surrounded by loved ones and enjoying delicious Roman food.
Looking Back
This trip reminded us how important it is to take time away from our busy lives to connect with family and friends. While the places we visited were beautiful, it was these personal connections that made our journey truly meaningful and rejuvenating.
